Your Baby's Sleep Environment: A Room-by-Room Guide

The ideal sleep environment can make or break your baby's sleep quality. Here is exactly how to set up the perfect sleep space.

Safe sleep environment

Temperature: The Number One Factor

The ideal range is 68-72F (20-22C).

Too hot: Baby sweats, becomes restless, increased SIDS risk Too cold: Baby wakes frequently, cannot settle

Darkness: Darker Than You Think

For naps and nighttime, the room should be pitch black.

Solution: Blackout curtains + blackout blinds. Use painter's tape around edges if light leaks through.

Sound: White Noise [blocked] Is Your Friend

White noise for baby
  • Continuous white noise at 50 dB
  • Placed across the room from baby
  • Running for the entire sleep period

The Crib Setup

  • Firm, flat mattress
  • Fitted sheet only
  • No blankets, pillows, bumpers, or stuffed animals until age 1
  • Sleep sack instead of loose blankets

Travel Tips
